Wildflower Wonderland

While the whole of New South Wales moved out of drought for the first time in nine years in late 2010, the grazing country of the arid lands in the Western Division was alive with colour.

After struggling for such a long time to keep their heads above their financial commitments and watching the devastating effect of little or no rain for months on end, it was an absolute delight for landholders and townsfolk alike to see everything so alive.

The countryside looked like a native bouquet, with paddocks full of the hardy and alien-like Sturt Desert Pea, the South Australian state emblem, as well as eerie bright orbs called ‘Egg and Bacon Flowers.’

What an absolute delight to live in this veritable wildflower wonderland just rising out of the rocks and dust.
