Sometimes you walk into a pub in the outback and think, wow, what a face, how I’d like to capture that image…
The difference between that thought, and Boris Hlavica, is that he actually does it. He takes his camera everywhere. He’s been everywhere – in the outback that is. And his images capture the rich tapestry of characters, colors, horizons and beauty of the heart of Australia.
Based in Broken Hill, Boris was born in the Czech Republic.
He’ll return to that part of the world next year to Prague where he has been invited to hold an exhibition of his work at the Gallery of Art Critics. He’s also been asked to exhibit in Spain and Slovakia, courtesy of sponsorship by the European based mining company, Emed Mining.
These are some of the works he has chosen to show, captured from the heart of Australia.
About Boris:
When Boris Hlavica saw the alchemy of printing black-and-white photographs at the age of 10, he knew he was going to be a photographer. Boris studied at Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology, Australia, while working as an industrial photographer. Soon after graduating in Fine Art – Photography, he was headhunted by an advertising agency. Eventually, Boris was to run his own commercial/industrial studio for 15 years.
The lure of the Australian inland finally won out in 2003. The clincher was the attractions of Broken Hill in far western NSW. To anyone with a 4WD, Broken Hill is central to the arid zone and deserts of Australia. The unique character of the town, its people and the surrounding country are enough in themselves to last a lifetime of photography.
Boris has had several exhibitions and has been awarded and acquired in art prizes.
