Rats!

Please do not read this blog if you are on the sensitive side...but just when we thought we had problems in NSW and SA with our mouse plagues, what about the rats!!

Huge rains and floods, while great for the cattle, have also brought an infestation of native long-haired rats, and if you're living around Bedourie or Longreach - they're coming to a town near you!

Last night's tally of mouse trap whacks met an unprecedented nine in our house.  The all time horror of their presence has not surpassed the recent event where one used my arm as a main thoroughfare whilst I lay in bed trying to sleep, but finding one in my underwear drawer this morning was a bit of an emotional  challenge...

But poor old Queensland and the thought of rats in plague proportions just horrifies me!

"Ideal seasonal conditions," say the experts..."can have 12 young every three weeks - it's one of the highest reproductive capacities in any Australian rodent."

I need somewhere to go and recover from the visual....

Thats what we have to put up with... We all wanted good rains and we all got it and now we have mice and rats to prove it.. They wont be around forever but it sure seems it at the moment.
